“October is Disability Employment Awareness month. Each year, the council hosts the Employment First Summit. Employment will be the first priority and preferred outcome when providing services to people with disabilities for all working age citizens with disabilities, regardless of level of disability.  This year’s summit will focus on 3 areas of emphasis: job coach training, consumer skills, and relevant/mainstream information for Employers/HR about hiring people with disabilities.”

 

Wyoming Comprehensive Statewide Needs Assessment (2023)

“The State of Wyoming, Department of Workforce Services, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), the State Rehabilitation Council and the Interwork Institute at San Diego State University jointly conducted an assessment of the vocational rehabilitation needs of individuals with disabilities residing in the State of Wyoming. A triennial needs assessment is required by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended by Title IV of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and is intended to help inform the Unified State Plan developed by the core partners in Wyoming’s Workforce Development System. The data was gathered, analyzed and grouped into the sections listed below. A summary of key findings and recommendations in each section is contained here. Wyoming CMS Navigator Cooperative Agreement Recipient (2019)

“Memorial Hospital of Laramie County DBA Cheyenne Region was awarded a statewide 2019 CMS Navigator Cooperative Agreement serving the Uninsured, “left behind,” vulnerable, and underserved community members such as Ranchers, oil and gas workers; entrepreneurs; hourly-wage and seasonal workers; rural community residents; Native American/Tribal Members; other minority populations; refugees; veterans who are not receiving health care benefits; homeless persons in transition; incarcerated individuals and their families; and individuals who are currently on parole, or who will be released from incarceration within an eighteen (18) month time span. There are no Sub-awardee/Subrecipient Contracted Organizations. Community relationships will be with Local workforce departments, Wyoming 2-1-1, Wyoming Department of Insurance’s Rapid Response Team, Local farming and ranching organizations, Small Business Association (SBA), KidCare/CHIP Program, and VITA sites.”

“The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is a federally-funded employment training and placement program for eligible unemployed, low-income individuals age 55 and older. The purpose of SCSEP is to foster individual economic self-sufficiency, promote useful part-time training opportunities in meaningful community service work-based assignments, and increase the number of older persons who may obtain unsubsidized employment in the public or private sector…

The priorities of service in Wyoming SCSEP include serving those with one or more of the following:

a. Are 55 years of age or older, of this group those 65+ have priority
b. Have a disability…
e. Are a Veteran or eligible spouse of a Veteran…”
