Access to Career Technical Education for Students with a Disability (ACTE-SPED) aid

~~“Access to Career Technical Education for Students with a Disability (ACTE-SPED) aid is designed for students who require curriculum modifications and special equipment to participate in state-approved Career Technical Education (CTE) work-based learning (WBL) programs. A student selected for this program must meet the state definition of a child with a disability.

Access to CTE services enables students with disabilities to participate in state-approved CTE WBL programs based on their career interests, abilities and annual goals as outlined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP). CTE services and supports must be provided by licensed staff who meet Minnesota Professional Educator License and Standards Board requirements. Needed curriculum modifications and other supplemental services are documented within the student’s IEP.”

~~“Strategies Broaden the Effective Use of Person-Centered Planning Principles and Techniques for People with Disabilities
•Define and initiate person-centered planning services to assist people with disabilities in expressing their needs and preferences about quality of life.
•Expand person-centered planning principles across more populations to include Medical Assistance recipients using mental health or home care services, those served through DEED, MDE, those leaving correctional facilities, and those requiring a coordinated plan between education, human services, and/or health.  Provide training on person-centered planning practices and informed choice to people with disabilities and their families, counties, tribes, and providers.
•Actively promote and encourage implementation of best practices and person-centered strategies that support individualized service and housing options through, for example, Housing Options Best Practices Forum and communities of practice on person-centered planning and transition protocols.”

The team will represent all of the different types of individuals involved including those receiving services, staff members, administrators, family and community members to work together to solve problems. The types of problems that are identified will guide the group to select a positive support practice. Together, the team uses the information gathered to share the decision making process will everyone. Consensus building and buy-in increases when all individuals within a setting contribute to important decisions that are made. Training information -Partners in Policymaking

~~“Partners in Policymaking is a classroom style leadership training program designed for adults with disabilities and for parents of young children with developmental disabilities. The program teaches leadership skills, and the process of developing positive partnerships with elected officials and other individuals who make the policy decisions about services that you and your family use.

The Minnesota Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities sponsors these classes. More information is available on current classes and dates.”
