Maine State Agency and Departments Protection and Advocacy of People with Disabilities
The agency has the following powers and duties:
  • Information and referral. The agency may provide information on and referral to programs and services addressing the needs of persons with disabilities.
  • Advice. The agency may advise and educate individuals on the rights of persons with disabilities and otherwise support and assist those persons in the protection of and advocacy for those rights.
  • Pursuit of remedies. The agency may pursue administrative, legal and other appropriate remedies on behalf of persons with disabilities…
  • Report. The agency shall prepare an annual report for submission to the Governor, the Legislature, the Commissioner of Health and Human Services and the Secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Maine SB 37: Maine Apprenticeship Program (2021)

Conforms the Maine Apprenticeship Program to the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972 and for affirmative action compliance in apprenticeship programs, provides for the date of birth, contact information and, on a voluntary basis, the social security number of the apprentice and a request for demographic data, including the apprentice’s race, sex, ethnicity and disability status, provides for a statement that the apprentice will be accorded equal opportunity in all phases of apprenticeship.

“Governor Janet Mills announced today that 14 organizations will receive $12.3 million to expand apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeships across Maine as part of her Administration’s effort to strengthen Maine’s workforce through her Maine Jobs & Recovery Plan. The funding is expected to provide more than 3,000 Maine people with new apprenticeship or pre-apprenticeship opportunities, more than doubling the number of Maine’s current apprentices.”
