Virginia Executive Order 46 (2015): Supporting Virginians with Disabilities…

“The Chief Workforce Development Advisor, in conjunction with the Secretary of Health and Human Resources, shall work with DARS and DBVI to offer to all executive branch agencies (including institutions of higher education, boards, and commissions) training designed to expand existing efforts to recruit, accommodate, retain and advance Virginians with disabilities in the Commonwealth’s workforce. Training shall commence no later than October 1, 2015…”

South Dakota Proclamation: Disability-Employment Awareness Month (2015)

“Gov. Dennis Daugaard proclaimed October 2015 as Disability Employment Awareness Month.

The executive proclamation advances the Governor’s goal of making South Dakota an employment-first state, one in which employment is the first priority and preferred outcome for all citizens with disabilities.

“South Dakota is joining a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about disability employment issues and to celebrate the contributions of America’s workers with disabilities,” said state Department of Human Services (DHS) Secretary Gloria Pearson. “We encourage South Dakotans to take a look at AbilityForHire.com to learn more about how South Dakota is contributing to this effort.””

Michigan Executive Order No. 2004-31: State ADA Coordinator

“Whereas, in Michigan there are approximately 1.9 million persons with disabilities;

Whereas it has long been the policy of the State of Michigan and this Governor to ensure that all persons, including those persons with disabilities, are given equal participation opportunities in all aspects of public life;

Now, therefore, I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of State of Michigan, by virtue of the power and authority vested in the Governor under the Michigan Constitution of 1963 and Michigan law, order the following:

  • Establishment of State ADA Coordinator;
  • Designation of Departmental ADA Coordinators;
  • Assistance of Departments of Agencies”

California Executive Order S-4-05

“ …WHEREAS, State Government has an opportunity and a responsibility to lead by example, ensuring individuals with disabilities have an open door to the many opportunities in public service;… NOW, THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor of the State of California do hereby issue this order to become effective immediately: 1. All state agencies, departments, boards and commissions shall utilize best efforts with respect to recruitment, hiring, advancement, and other terms, conditions, and privileges of employment and issue clear, written directives to their managers and supervisors prohibiting discrimination against qualified individuals with disabilities. 2. Each state agency shall comply with existing law and annually review its hiring practices to identify any barriers to employment of individuals with disabilities, and, in consultation with their disability advisory committee, take appropriate action to eliminate any non job-related barriers to the integration of individuals with disabilities into the workforce. 3. All state agencies, departments, boards, and commissions shall utilize the Limited Examination and Appointment Program (LEAP) lists in filling vacancies. LEAP lists provide a ready pool of qualified candidates, who happen to have a disability, for a variety of jobs. 4. The State Personnel Board shall provide statewide leadership, in partnership with the Department of Rehabilitation, to coordinate and provide technical guidance to fulfill the intent of this executive order…”

 

 

 

Maryland Executive Order 01.01.2007.13

“It is the policy of the State of Maryland to ensure a smooth and effective transition for all students with disabilities from secondary education to adult services such as postsecondary education and employment; and to provide transition planning for students and families that is student focused and family-centered, based on individual strengths and needs, utilizes best practices, and leads to outcomes in the most integrated setting appropriate; and It is deemed necessary to establish an Interagency Transition Council to recommend policies and identify the funding requirements to ensure effective, efficient, and comprehensive delivery of services that will most effectively meet the transition needs of Maryland students with disabilities.”

Utah Executive Order 2007-0013: Model Employer for People with Disabilities

“Governor Jon M. Huntsman Jr., declares that, “Utah state government will strive to become the model employer of qualified people with disabilities…

Some programmatic components [of the executive order] include, a promotional outreach campaign to recruit qualified people with disabilities, specific programs within executive branch state agencies to recruit qualified people with disabilities, and a Task Force consisting of representatives of the Utah Department of Human Resource Management, the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation, The Governor’s Committee for Employment of People with Disabilities, the Department of Workforce Services, and the Division of Risk Management… [Agencies are] charged with reviewing and proposing additional strategies to put Utah state government on the cutting edge of employing qualified people with disabilities”

Maryland Executive Order 01.01.2009.10: Disability History and Awareness Month

“Now, therefore, I, Martin O’Malley, Governor of the State of Maryland […] hereby proclaim the following executive order, effective immediately.

State of Maryland Executive Branch agencies shall annually observe October as Disability History and Awareness Month.

The Department of Disabilities shall take steps to increase public awareness of the history of disabilities and the disability rights movement […]

The Maryland State Department of Education shall encourage and assist local boards of education to provide instruction in the history of disabilities, people with disabilities, and the disability rights movement during the observance of Disability History Awareness Month.”

Ohio Executive Order 2012-05K: Employment First

“Governor John Kasich officially launched Ohio’s Employment First Initiative when he signed Executive Order 2012-05K on March 19, 2012. The Executive Order established statewide collaboration and coordination by creating the Employment First Taskforce and Advisory Committee, and made community employment the preferred outcome for individuals with developmental disabilities. The taskforce is charged with expanding community employment opportunities by reducing barriers and aligning state policy.”

Nevada Executive Order 2013-10: Establishing a Program for the Hiring of People with Disabilities into the State Workforce

“By the power vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and the laws of the State of Nevada, I hereby direct and order that all state agencies made a concerted effort to include persons with disabilities into the “preliminary and final group of    candidates” considered for each appropriate opening within the agency. It orders all state agencies to make the hiring of persons with disabilities a priority, mandating that at least five percent of openings give persons with disabilities priority.”
