Customizing Employment: Strategies for Employment Success

Wednesday, June 24, 2020
2:00pm - 3:15pm ET

This webinar will expand on what we learned last week about Discovery and how to take the next step after you have really gotten to know the veterans with whom you work. Customized Employment (CE) is a process that starts with Discovery. CE is a strategy for helping people who have not been successful with traditional job search approaches (e.g., identifying open positions, filling out applications and interviewing). While traditional job search approaches work well for some (i.e., people whose skills most closely match the job description and who interview well), often people experiencing barriers to employment do not compete well and can become frustrated.

Customized Employment seeks to create a “win/win” employment opportunity by matching the contributions of a job seeker with the unmet needs of an employer. CE circumvents the competitive nature of more traditional employment strategies by proactively proposing and/or negotiating employment to employers that is a good fit for both the employer and the job seeker.  Through the process of Discovery and Customized Employment, job seekers use and build their social network to assist in identifying job leads. Employers find an employee who is a good fit for their business and the work that needs to get done.  It is a “win-win” for both the job seekers and the employer!
