LEAD Presents at 2014 Annual Conference on Independent Living
On July 31, LEAD Center Public Policy Lead and Executive Director of National Disability Institute (NDI) Michael Morris presented at the 2014 Annual Conference on Independent Living. Morris led a panel discussion on best practices that have been field tested at Centers for Independent Living (CILs) and how to access user-friendly resources that have been developed and piloted by CILs.
Joining Morris was Kelly Buckland, executive director, National Council on Independent Living (NCIL); Judy Rory, programs coordinator, Disability Rights and Resources (Birmingham, Alabama); Tami Hoar, program director, Montana Independent Living Project (Helena, Montana); Lois O’Mahoney, employment consultant, IndependenceFirst (Milwaukee, Wisconsin); and Speed Davis, senior policy advisor, U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Disability Employment Policy.
During his presentation, Morris highlighted the employment outcomes achieved during the past year through the LEAD Center, NCIL and select CIL’s work with American Job Centers (AJCs). In addition, Morris and panelists shared their thoughts and perspectives on strategies to learn and advance employment and economic self-sufficiency outcomes for people supported by CILs.
