Corey Smith is a Senior Consultant with Griffin-Hammis Associates, Inc. He provides training and technical assistance on Customized Employment, Supported Employment, braided funding, and building social capital for people with disabilities, families, provides, high schools and funding sources.  Projects include the development of CE services in both metropolitan and rural communities, also working with funders and Universities on best practices strategies. Corey brings many years of experience in direct services, administration, organizational transformation, and development, for organizations providing employment services.

Corey has been with GHA for the past decade providing consultation and training for rehabilitation customers around the Country. Corey became a full-time employee in January 2015, previously splitting his time between GHA and Directing a community employment program in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. Corey serves as a Subject Matter Expert on Customized Employment for the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), a consultant to the RRTC at Virginia Commonwealth University, and a number of other universities, states, community rehabilitation providers, high school transition programs, and families.  In the early 1990s, Corey adopted self-employment and IPS supported employment for individuals with psychiatric disabilities in his role as rehabilitation director for a mental health center in Michigan.

In 2014 Corey received the national Association for People Supporting Employment First (APSE) Dave Hammis Innovation Award for his work in Customized Employment and Braided Funding Strategies.  Corey has 30 years of experience directing highly successful supported employment programs in Pennsylvania and Michigan. He is a founding board member and Past President for both the Michigan and Pennsylvania APSE and plays a leadership role for the Pennsylvania Employment First Initiative. Corey holds a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Psychology from Western Michigan University, a Master’s degree in Administrative Sciences for Central Michigan University, and holds Certification as a Social Security Benefits Specialist through the University of Missouri.
